Architecturally Designed by The Smith Group, this 5 -story building completed in 2012 was the first higher education LEED Platinum certified building in the State of Michigan and one of only four in the country. During the screening process, the University sited experience, safety and teamwork among the criteria used to evaluate firms being interviewed and selected for work on the project. Macomb Mechanical was selected by Oakland University and The Christman company to perform as the mechanical,plumbing and piping contractor on this very technical LEED Platinum project.
This project involved installation of 256 Geothermal wells supporting the largest variable refrigerant heat pump system (400 Tons) of its kind in the United States. A state of the art Solar Panel system providing desiccant cooling, humidity and water heating was also part of the MMI scope.
